Don's Rocks -- Samples

Home Page

This is an example of transforming an unusually shaped rock into a decorative garden piece. This particular rock was created as a gift to my Brother-in-Law and Sister- in -law in central Vermont where they brought us to discover a wonderful location in the hills where a seasonal river flows off the mountains at the melting of the winter snows. It is a bonanza for rock painters! (Thank you Steve and Mary! ) ( 24" W x 13" H - Wt . 25 lbs.)

This picture does not do justice for this little guy.He was created from several snapshots of the actual dog taken by his master. He weighed in at 32 lbs!

This little "Bambi" measures approximately 7" across and weighs in at 12 lbs.He is painted,as most of my rocks are, 360 degrees around, giving him a natural appearance. (Note: Wife claimed this one ! )
When asked to paint a fish on a rock by a fellow worker,I had no idea how that would look.I actually thought that it was a weird request. My co-worker hounded me to try and gave me a picture of a fish he had caught.I figured that I might as well try and get him off my back.I made one for him and within two weeks ,he had a couple of friends that wanted one as well as a couple of my other co-workers.I was shocked as to their popularity! The pictured rock was approxomately 6" in diameter and weighed about six lbs.

I guess, if I could paint a fish on a rock, there probably are no limits as to what can be painted on a rock!
This particular rock is a bit odd shaped and fairly flat.Perfect for another version of the famous "Trails End" type painting. Not nearly as professional as the original version that I remember seeing when I was a kid years ago,but none the less poingnant in depicting the Indians faith in nature and a higher power. This was not a large rock,it stood about 6" tall and weighed a little less than 2 lbs.
